NOAHVILLE

one small child can change the world

The Story...

Noah is a six year old boy who lives in Plymouth, Mass. When he was three, his school had what is called a “100 Day Project”, which celebrates the 100th day of the school year. The school fosters creativity by assigning the children to do whatever project they want, as long as it has 100 of something in it. When Noah came home from school that day, he told his parents about the project. When he was asked what he wanted to create, he said “100 Houses, because everyone needs a house”. With the help of his mom, Noah scaled down his project to 100 images of houses. He picked the colors. He picked the placement. He named his town “Noahville“. His parents loved the look of the project so much, they framed it, and hung it in his bedroom.

Just under 3 years later, Hurricane Katrina has brought destruction to the Gulf Coast of the United States. Millions of people have been affected. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed. As adults seeing it, it is difficult to comprehend and tough to watch. Watching children view these events has two sides. The first is their difficulty in understanding it. Similar to an adults, but even more powerful, as they have not seen anything like this before. The second side is their innocence. Their heartfelt questions of “Why don’t they just get them out?” or “Can’t we just build them new homes?”

For Noah, this has a personal connection, as his Aunt lives in Biloxi, Miss. She got out safely, but suffered losses. While seeing these events on TV, and hearing people talk about the destruction and devastation, Noah decided that he wanted to help. He wanted to build a real “Noahville” to help all those people who have lost their homes. In talking about it with his parents, they decided that maybe he could build Noahville, in a small way.

The original art piece “Noahville” has been recreated into 14x20 posters. All profits from the sales of these posters will go directly to Habitat for Humanity Hurricane Katrina & Rita Rebuilding Efforts. You can help Noah change the world. In his words:

“Thank you for helping me help people.”
